How to Measure Necklace Length Correctly
The length of a necklace - what it depends on and how to determine it
If you order jewelry such as necklaces online, you need to determine the right size beforehand. Standard size or individual size - with a few tricks, you too can find your new favorite necklace in an optimal length.

Standard lengths
There are different standard lengths for necklaces for women and men. 40 cm, 45 cm, 50 cm and 60 cm are the common lengths for a women's necklace. These lengths also have different names. If the necklace is only 40 cm, it is a choker. A princess necklace measures between 45 and 50 cm and usually reaches the collarbone. The matinee length is 50 cm, but if the necklace is to reach the décolleté, it must be at least 55 cm long. Anything from 65 cm is considered an XL necklace and can even be wrapped around the neck twice as a rope necklace.
A men's necklace usually reaches the collarbone and is 50 cm long. With a length of only 45 cm, it reaches the base of the neck and is suitable for men with a smaller collar size. The standard size of 55 cm reaches just below the collarbone, and 60 cm ends above the sternum.
If you want to measure the right size for a child, you should determine it by age and height. Most of these necklaces are between 35 and 40 cm. However, keep in mind that a child's necklace should be shorter rather than long so that it cannot accidentally get caught.
Face shape and height play a role
Face shape and physique should be considered when determining the length of a necklace. If you have a rather round face, you should opt for a shorter necklace. Those with a prominent chin can conceal it with a choker necklace, and oval faces can wear any necklace length.
As a general rule, the shorter you are, the shorter your necklace should be. This, of course, also depends on your taste, and there is certainly nothing wrong with a long necklace even if you are shorter. However, it should then be delicate rather than massive.
Calculating the length of necklaces
Last but not least, the necklace should fit well, not cut in, or rest unfavorably on the neckline of the dress or blouse.
You can use necklaces you already own to determine the length of a new necklace. You should open the necklace and lay it flat on a smooth surface. Now you can use a ruler to determine the length.
If you don't have any necklaces on hand, measure your neck circumference. You can then calculate the optimal length by adding 5 centimeters. This is the minimum length your new necklace should have so that it doesn't fit too tightly.
Calculate, determine, or simply be individual - the length of your chain depends on various factors, as well as your very own taste.
