Certina DS PH200M: Back to the Future

Certina has always enjoyed getting to the bottom of things – not only in terms of precision and robustness, but also in ocean exploration. With its latest creation, the Swiss watch brand revives a historical model that has lost none of its relevance. The Certina DS PH200M seamlessly continues the timeless design of its predecessor, combining it with a powerful automatic caliber of the latest generation.

Water an Important Element for Certina

In the 1960s and 1970s, Certina demonstrated the robustness of its timepieces in a series of high-profile research projects and expeditions. These journeys took the watches not only to dizzying heights but also to the bottom of the sea. This experience inspired the brand to develop a new timepiece dedicated to underwater life: the DS PH200M.

Interchangeable Watch Strap

In 2018, Certina presents the reissue of this classic. Its 42.8 mm diameter stainless steel case features a scaled, unidirectional rotating black bezel. It frames a black dial, from which Super-LumiNova-coated hands and indices stand out perfectly even in the dark. On the back of the watch, as then, a relief of a turtle, Certina's brand symbol, greets the viewer. The model is rounded off by a supple blue NATO textile strap with a pin buckle and a Milanese steel strap with a double folding clasp.

Heritage - Tradition Reimagined

The similarities to the original are more than superficial: like its predecessor, the new DS PH200M features the original DS concept of the 1960s. Unlike modern Certina watches, a domed Hesalite box crystal with single-sided anti-reflective coating and scratch-resistant NEX Scratchguard coating, as well as a separate suspension ring, provide double security – and water resistance up to 20 bar. Nevertheless, the precision and performance of the mechanical timepiece are decidedly contemporary. An innovative Powermatic 80 caliber ensures accuracy and a power reserve of 80 hours. Thus, the new, old Certina DS PH200M bows to the past while looking decisively into the future.
